During my recent visit to KL, visiting my “girlfriends”, i gave a suprise visit to my other GF whom I’ve not seen for ages but kept very close by phone. He treated me to a movie at the Premier Class, the so-called business class of movie theatres. The movie was “Kungfu Panda”, a cute movie starring the big shots of Hollywood including a very manly looking Angeline Jolie as a tiger and a barely recognizable Jackie Chan as an ape for the little lines that he spoke. I slept through half of the movie hence, mising on the fun part of watching a mouse or whatever Dustin Hoffman is, training the ever timid and nature loving panda to do gongfu. I woke up at the second half when the epic battle between evil and good takes place and as in any other gongfu film, GOOD WILL ALWAYS WIN IN THE END, whatever the odd is. It’s cute, funny but formulaic in an almost Disney like quality. It is suffice to say that HOLLYWOOD has officially run out of ideas. As a summer release it is neither spectacular but not downright disssapointing. My friend has an affliction to all things furry and cute. Therefore, he enjoyed the movie immensely. I guess watching too much animes just makes you biased to all other forms of animation. Call me an OTAKU, I don’t think I deserve it but I’m all for Japanese animation.
As an act of desperation, I’ve recently started to go to the movies alone (something I have long left ages ago since I’ve discovered the joy of watching movies as a couple). I’ve decided that instead of watching it on DVD, I had to watch the BIG GREEN GUY aka THE INCREDIBLE HULK on the big screen. I was interested with the fact that the ever eccentric but genius Edward Norton chose to write and star in a “super hero” movie, customly made for the generally general public sans the geeky movie buff that his movies are previously linked with. After 2 hours I’ve decided that this new adaptation is by far a better adaptation for a few reasons:
The lengthy hide and seek game played by bruce banner and the General, was really fun, reminiscent of the bourne trilogy. He is much better as a spy rather than a geeky scientist working on some top secret army science project gone ugly.
The fight between the HULK and abomination was fun to watch at a certain level. The fact that the CGI was really bad makes the two figures less believable thus, the fight scene less real.
Liv tyler is as unimportant as jennifer connelly. They were mere eye candy serving as love interest to a tormented soul without being tormented themselves by the fact that their dads are evil generals screwing their boy friends life and that their boyfriend is now a green monster. They are just so unconvincing.
Both Eric bana and edward norton are too good looking to be geeky sceintist. End of story.
well, go see for yourselves and decide……………………..enjoy the movies
Love the Panda! he’s soooo cute..eventhough i’m not interested in chubs, no offence
