Wanted

I manage to watch WANTED today, the latest summer release, touted as the biggest actioner of year, what with its stellar cast which includes none other than mrs. action herself, ANJELINA JOLIE and MORGAN FREEMAN and (the not so famous then, but fast becoming Hollywood A-lister) JAMES McAVOY. The director himself previously directed two action-packed, mind-blowing movies i.e. NIGHTWATCH and DAYWATCH, so you should be expecting the same level of adrenaline flow you get from watching these movies. So, here is what I think of the movie………………

The premise of this story reminds me a lot of the MATRIX.

Your everyday life, working your ass off everyday to earn a paycheck every month is considered too ordinary, mundane and in the words of sloan (freeman) insane. In order to escape that, you will have to be in contact with an anonymous group of cyber terrorist (the Matrix) or in the case of this movie, a fraternity of assassins. Of course, being surronded by a group of people that can pull the trigger without a moments hesitation isn’t a very sensible kind of life to choose, but who can resist having 3 million USD in your bank account just by ending someone else’s life.

The concept of mind over matter is simple. You have to beleive that you are the chosen one, that you are gifted with some magnificient ability that you’ve never thought you had before and you can achieve all this after being beaten to craps by your trainers. In this movie, the hero learned one valuable lesson, something sort of the highlight of the movie, if NEO learned how to dodge bullets, WESLEY the hero, learned how to bend bullet. Bending bullets means the ability to shoot a gun but instead of the bullet going straight like it usually does, it curves around and hits the bull’s eye. The bullet bending was supposed to be the ultimate skill to kill the fraternity no.1 enemy, but in the end the hero killed him with a bullet straight to the chest, no bending of any sorts was required for that scene. It’s a pity though, a waste of a really cool move.

In the MATRIX, the head of the pack MORPHEUS, takes advice from the Oracle, an old granny that takes on a few incarnations throughout the trilogy. In this movie, everyone in the fraternity, a group of supposedly super-skilled assassins chose to listen to the words of a yarn spinner, which is supposed to be the voice of fate and destiny. The cloth coming out from this machine gives out a list of names, people that needs to be eliminated from this world because of the bad things that they may have done or may cause in the future. Following this code, means that you have to blindly follow the prophecies even if it means taking your own life. The worst part is the so-called encrypted codes can only be read by a singular person who turns out to be corrupted. Imagine putting your life in the hands of a corrupted leader. That sounds pretty much like the reality today.

Enough said, the movie is a great watch especially when you just forget about the plot and just focus all your attention on the creatively choroegraphed action sequences. James McAvoy is so so very SEXY in this movie. That is the main reason why I bothered to watch this movie in the first place.

Go see this movie and decide for yourself. ENJOY.
